A Wooden Sculpture of Ganesha

A carved wood sculpture of Ganesha, the Hindu deity patron of arts and sciences, and a symbol of intellect and wisdom. This is an unusual representation of Ganesh, as a slender, walking young man with long hair, when the elephant-man god is usually featured as a plump middle-aged man sitting cross-legged. Hand carved hardwood, recently mounted on a metal base.

Burma (Myanmar), late nineteenth century
