A Pair of Utility Tables

A pair of utility tables designed by François Caruelle for Embru Werke (Switzerland) in 1929. Metamorphic tables consisting of two wooden trays and brown-enamelled metal bases, all activated with the original bakelite knobs: the larger tray swivels out and can be tilted at an angle, the foot expands to ensure that the table is steady and the height is adjustable. Embru Werke produced these tables through to the 70s and this pair was probably made c. 1950. They could be used as sofa side tables or bedside tables.
