A Wall Hanging by Jean Lurçat

Artist and ceramicist Jean Lurcat (1892-1966) is best known for Le Chant du Monde (the Song of the World), a series of 10 monumental tapestries that he saw as his modern answer to the fourteenth-century Apocalypse Tapestry.

His masterpiece balances the beauty of nature and progress against the threats of his time, and in particular the nuclear weapon. He also designed many tapestries centred mostly on nature and animals, including this one entitled 'The phases of the moon'. We are selling one of the more affordable reproductions printed on wool that were made in the 1960s.
